About the initiatve

Often, the best ideas for community improvements come from those who live and work there. The Wichita Creatives Fund supports this theory and are thrilled to introduce the Create Work Initiative Call for Ideas.

At the start of the pandemic, the Wichita Creatives Fund was established to assist local creatives with Emergency Relief Grants. This fund provides one-time, rapid response, need-based grants to independent artists, musicians, performers and others who work in a creative capacity and whose livelihoods have been impacted by the current public health crisis. To date, the Wichita Creatives Fund has provided 90 artists with $500 grants, totalling $45,000. With more awaiting funding.

As we move forward through this pandemic and continue to see the impact of creative industries unable to reopen, we will continue to provide these grants as funding is available. In addition, WCERF will also work to connect these independent artists, musicians, performers and others in the creative industries with local and regional businesses for arts-related work opportunities.

Enter the Create Work Initiative

By leveraging the resources of the Wichita and Sedgwick County communities, we hope to connect artists and creatives who have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic to opportunities to create works of art the entire community can enjoy.

Whether you’re an artist or creator who has an idea for a publicly accessible space that could be improved with the addition of an artistic installation, a business owner with publicly accessible space that you would like to see improved, a community member who sees a vision to improve a space, or an creator who has the skills to create but is without an idea - we want to hear from you!

The Create Work Initiative will:

  • Fund community arts projects through matching artists with project opportunities to create publically accessible works.

  • Encourage the exploration of Wichita and Sedgwick County streets and public spaces.

  • Highlight the arts and culture in our community as a place for creativity and possibility.

  • Reinforce the identity of WIchita as the heart of a diverse and multifaceted region.

  • Welcome people to Wichita and Sedgwick County with the impression that they have arrived at a unique, vibrant, and creative destination, rich with history, where people from all over the region, country, and world are encouraged to gather.
